Polish Red Cross announces the 2nd edition of the competition “Power of Blood Donation”, the first project in the history of Polish blood donation dedicated to honorary blood donors. It is a unique initiative aimed not only at promoting the idea of blood donation among women but also at raising awareness of the invaluable value of donated blood.
Blood – a gift that cannot be replaced
Blood is a medicine that saves the lives and health of the sick and victims of accidents. Unfortunately, it cannot be produced – the only source remains human kindness and willingness to help others. To keep blood banks full throughout the year, we need support from an increasing number of honorary donors.
In Poland, according to data from the Central Statistical Office, in 2023, over 640 thousand people donated blood. Among them, women make up as much as 25%. Despite being a minority among donors, their contribution is invaluable. Women can become distinguished honorary blood donors after donating at least 5 liters of this priceless gift.
The history of blood donation in the Polish Red Cross
The Polish Red Cross has been promoting the idea of honorary blood donation for almost 90 years. The first Honorary Blood Donor Clubs of the Polish Red Cross began to be established as early as the late 1950s. Currently, there are as many as 781 such clubs in Poland, gathering 17,499 blood donors, of which 24% are women.

“I am still here” – A campaign that changes the lives of seniors.
In Poland, as many as 1 in 3 seniors live alone, often struggling with isolation and a sense of exclusion. The Polish Red Cross's "I'm Still Here" campaign was created to change this reality. Thanks to the support of donors, we create Senior Clubs, places that give older people a chance for new relationships, the development of passions and the joy of life.
