Over the past weekend, the Polish Red Cross urgently sent dehumidifiers to Lower Silesia. Together with local partners, the PCK team also delivered meals for soldiers and volunteers working on the levees and for homeless individuals. Assistance continues to reach those areas where it is most needed.
The Polish Red Cross (PCK) concluded an intense weekend of aid in the flood-affected areas of Lower Silesia. Over the past few days, the PCK team of employees and volunteers, in cooperation with the Military Gendarmerie, the Morning Foundation from Wrocław, and the Municipal Social Welfare Center in Wrocław, ensured meals for those working on the flood protection levees. At the same time, meals were provided to individuals affected by homelessness who also suffered as a result of the disaster. The goal is to reach as many people as possible who need support, providing aid even in the most difficult-to-access places.

The Polish Red Cross purchased industrial air dehumidifiers, which arrived on Saturday in the areas most affected by the flood, including Stronie Śląskie. This is a key element of assistance, as the flood left not only destruction but also difficult living conditions requiring immediate intervention. The devices will help residents begin the long-term process of drying out their homes and buildings that were damaged by the disaster. These actions support residents not only in the short term but also in the long-term perspective of rebuilding destroyed households.
Dehumidifiers are equipment that will help the affected survive the next few days but also an investment in the long-term recovery of communities affected by the flood. We are helping not only to survive the coming weeks but also preparing the victims for the recovery process.
Thus, we are concluding the first stage – the rescue stage, which focused on providing direct assistance to those affected by the disaster. Today, with the passage of the flood wave, we are beginning the long-term process of preparing homes for rebuilding. In ideal conditions, this will take about 2 weeks and includes drying, cleaning, and securing buildings against further destruction. This is a critical time to prepare residents for rebuilding their homes and returning to normalcy. Our actions will now focus on supporting these processes to help communities regain stability as quickly as possible.

Psychologists working as part of the PCK action in cooperation with the Lower Silesian University of DSW have gone to Stronie Śląskie to provide emotional support on-site. Additionally, since Friday, September 20, a free psychological support hotline has been operating daily at the number 664 918 148. The assistance is intended for both adults and youth and children dealing with trauma caused by the flood, and specialists are available 7 days a week from 10:00 to 12:00 and from 15:00 to 18:00.
In the face of a natural disaster, we cannot forget those who were already in a difficult situation due to various reasons. For homeless individuals, the flood means the loss of the last places that provided them shelter. Therefore, it is essential that help also reaches them.
In Stara Wieś, the Humanitarian Support Group of the Polish Red Cross supported residents over the weekend in the defense of the flood protection levees that were built after the memorable flood of 1997.
We helped there with hot tea, kind words, and filling bags with sand. The number of engaged individuals, the quantity of stacked bags, and the immense commitment show that as a society we have limitless possibilities!
On Saturday, September 21, the PCK Rescue Group concluded its aid activities in Czechowice-Dziedzice. Rescuers prepared and distributed sandbags over the last 2 weeks, securing critical locations against further flooding. They also supported the Fire Brigade in pumping out water, providing medical security. A supply and distribution point for disinfectants was established, which were delivered directly to inundated homes. Rescuers provided medical assistance for volunteers and emergency services working in the flooded areas.

The Polish Red Cross appeals for continued support for the nationwide fundraiser on the portal zrzutka.pl. – Thanks to donations, we can quickly respond to current needs and deliver essential materials, such as dehumidifiers, construction equipment, and cleaning supplies that will aid in the recovery of flooded areas. We thank you for every support and ask for further help so we can effectively assist all residents of Lower Silesia affected by the flood.
