On July 9, 2025, at the Kuyavian-Pomeranian District Branch in Bydgoszcz, as part of the project "Together to Independence" art therapy workshops were held, led by a psychologist.

The meeting was aimed at participants of the WDN project, who, as a result of the war, had to leave their country and are now rebuilding their lives in Poland. The goal of the workshops was to create a space for reflection, expressing emotions, and examining personal needs through creative activities. Participants were invited to create an artwork titled "The Road to the Future".

What is art therapy?

Art therapy is a form of therapy that uses art as a tool to work with emotions, stress, and life experiences. It does not require artistic talent – the creative process is important, not the final result. Through drawing, painting, molding with clay, or creating collages, participants can:

  • better understand themselves and their emotions,

  • express what they cannot or do not want to say in words,

  • reduce tension and stress,

  • find peace and inner balance,

  • develop self-awareness and strengthen their sense of agency.

In working with individuals experiencing trauma, migration, anxiety, or loss, art therapy can be a safe and effective tool for rebuilding a sense of internal safety.

Our experience

During the workshop, each participant created their "road to the future" – using paints and brushes to express their needs, desires, hopes, and goals. It was not about aesthetics, but about emotions and the message hidden in colors, shapes, and composition.

In a warm, friendly atmosphere, through sincere conversation and mutual trust, very personal works were created – often touching and deeply symbolic.

Why is this important?

For individuals who have been forced to leave their country, homes, and loved ones, it is important not only to receive material assistance but also emotional and psychological support. Art therapy can become a tool for rebuilding – a bridge between the past and the future.

It was not just a workshop – it was a step towards independence, towards a new sense of self, in a new reality.
